The VP, Tech Services is a member of the senior management team at F&S Produce, reporting to the President & CEO, with responsibilities for three critical corporate functions:  1) Corporate Quality Assurance and Food Safety, and management and maintenance of the F&S Produce Co., Inc. Quality System and its compliance with SQF 2000 Level-3 and other third-party certification, 2) Corporate Research and Development, and the management of new product development activities in association with the VP Sales and Marketing and others on the senior management team, and 3) Management of Corporate Environmental Services functions, including water, wastewater and other functions in association with the VP Manufacturing and plant engineers. 

Principle Duties & Responsibilities
*  Maintain and continually improve F&S Produce Quality System documentation, so that it meets the requirements of SQF 2000, Level-3 or equivalent third party certification.  In addition, maintain and continually improve Quality System documentation and required third party audit requirements for sister organizations of Pipco Transportation and MidEastern Cold Storage.
 *  Provide ongoing Strategic Planning for the entire Technical Services department, and oversee its implementation, and develop effective tools to create an efficient and effective Technical Services team.
 *  Provide ongoing oversight and direction for the Quality Assurance Managers and Departments at each F&S Plant location, and for the Sanitation Manager and Sanitation Department at each F&S Plant location.
 *  Provide oversight and maintenance of the Raw Material Specifications, Finished Product Specifications,  Chemical and Allergen Control Programs, Integrated Pest Management Program, Customer Service Complaint Process, Food Safety and HACCP programs, microbiological and sensory shelf life evaluation, approved ingredient process, microbiological testing protocol (including environmental monitoring), and all other quality assuarance and food safety procedures and guidelines.
 *  Provide oversight for all F&S training requirements in Food Safety, Quality, HACCP, and related technical issues.
 *  Provide direction for regulatory compliance issues in food safety (FDA, USDA, NJHSS, CCBOH) and environmental (DEP, CCBOH) areas
 *  Develop internal audit schedules, and supervise auditing process and report audit results to management
 *  Serve as HACCP Coordinator.
 *  Serve as Recall Coordinator, and manage the company’s crisis management and emergency preparedness program. In the event of a product recall, communicate with company suppliers and customers as needed, and the FDA and/or USDA as necessary, and comply with the guidelines that are established in the F&S Product Recall Policy.  In addition, support the management of product withdrawal situations that may occur, and conduct internal mock recalls on at least an annual basis.
 *  Develop effective Supplier Auditing process and a program in Good Agricultural Practices (GAP’s) for F&S Produce.  Conduct audits of suppliers to F&S Produce based upon a risk assessment that is to be developed, identify and cite deviations, and work with suppliers to develop corrective action or terminate suppliers as needed. Communicate status to management team.
 *  Serve as company liaison with USDA, FDA, Kosher, Halal and NOP regulatory authorities
 *  Provide oversight to company’s Research and Development process, working collaboratively with Sales and Marketing team, and ensure that all needed customer documentation is provided, including nutritional labeling requirements, ingredient statements, Country of Origin Labeling, net weight statements, etc.
 *  Interact regularly with F&S Produce copacking partners, and their Quality Assurance and Operations management, to ensure that all products are produced in conformance with specifications.
 *  Serve as principal in Corrective and Preventative Action systems including COGZ, CA6, and audits
 *  Perform other duties and responsibilities as required by senior management
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
 *  The position requires a minimum of a BS in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology or a related field, and a MS degree in Food Science is preferred. 
 *  At least ten years of experience in the food industry is required, ideally with increasing responsibilities in the field of quality assurance and food safety, and ideally with expertise with fresh-cut or IQF produce and/or perishable refrigerated foods.
 *  Must be a team player and capable of working in a fast-paced environment, with strong problem solving skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. 
 *  Excellent oral and written communication skills, and excellent skills at managing and motivating employees
 *  Should be able to perform SQF Practitioner functions and be HACCP certified
 *  Should be familiar with all aspects of MS Office software use and database reporting

QC Laboratories, located in Horsham, Pennsylvania is seeking to fill an opening for an experienced manager in our Dairy Sciences Department.
Job Description: Duties include management and oversight of all departmental operations including staff management, work scheduling, method validation and application on raw and finished dairy products, departmental quality assurance and departmental logistics management.

560 Research Assistant received Feb 14 2013
Research Assistant needed to provide support for a United States Department of Agriculture, grant-sponsored research project. This is a part-time position (10-35 hours/week) beginning immediately and will end December 2013. The position will continue, contingent upon grant funding and acceptable performance. Some work will be conducted on campus at Drexel University; other work will be conducted at the USDA work site in Wyndmoor, PA.
Responsibilities
∗ Perform routine and recurring techniques and studies using a variety of specialized equipment. Assisting in the preparation of media/reagents, the preparation, inoculation, and storage of foods, the microbiological sampling of inoculated products, the collection, recording, and analyses of the data, the drafting of the reports, and/or the genral maintenance of the laboratory. Collect proximate analysis and growth date for higher volume, higher risk foods.
∗ Records instrument readings, collects samples and take measurements.
∗ Keep detailed record of experimental data. Tabulates and summarizes data using personal computers and software packages.
∗ Design and conduct microbial challenge studies
∗ Maintains inventory of supplies chemicals. Prepares solutions and reagents for use in laboratory, and safely disposes off waste material (food, chemical and biological)
∗ Keep work-site in a neat and orderly manner, works well in a team environment
∗ Other duties as assigned by supervisor, including a review of relevant literature
∗ Notifies supervisor upon completion of assignment, discusses experimental results, reports ∗ Ability to make the effort to understand background and rationale of experiments conducted.
Minimum qualifications
Pursuing degree in: Biological Sciences, microbiology, or food microbiology, or related disciplines appropriate to the position such as food science, food technology, dairy science, meat science, molecular biology, hospitality management, culinary arts, nutrition science or computational science. OR
Combination of education and expertise, courses equivalent to a major as shown in above, plus appropriate experience or additional education
Desired Qualifications
∗ Knowledge of food safety through experience in any one of the following disciplines: microbiology (food), food science, food technology, molecular biology, and/or microbial genetics or statistics.
∗ Skill in the maintenance, cultivation and characterization of food-borne pathogenic bacteria
∗ Ability to handle, prepare, inoculate, process, store and analyze inoculated foods and to characterize and quantify the response of bacteria in food systems
∗ Ability to conduct, analyze and discuss results of research on detection, typing, and/or control of pathogens and threat agents associated with food.
∗ General knowledge of the basic principles of biological science (e.g. food microbiology, food science, biochemistry, microbiology, genetics, etc. ) to perform routine or recurring techniques and studies, record instrument readings, collect samples, and take measurements.
∗ Basic knowledge of processes, methods, and procedures necessary to perform the full range of duties in the assignment area particularly as it may relate to food handling and microbiological techniques.
∗ Basic knowledge of intrinsic and extrinsic food parameters that impact microbial growth
∗ Strong written and verbal communication skills
∗ Ability to recognize subtle variations in often repeated experiments
∗ Ability to schedule and independently carry out work assignments
∗ Ability to keep exact and detailed records of data obtained from experiments.
∗ Ability to work with others on a diverse, multi-agency, and multi-disciplinary team.
∗ Ability to operate and maintain food processing equipment and molecular characterization equipment

Job Requirements: Strong leadership skills are required. The role requires technical laboratory skills in a production environment and a BS in Food Science, Biology or Chemistry.
